A family member has recently bought a house which has had structured cabling installed. Unfortunately they have just run the cables and terminated them in the rooms but not in the home hub enclosure.

What patch panels are suitable for this type of installation and does anyone have switch recommendations? There would be at least 16 ports but an 8 port switch will be ok for them, they are not techy really.

Have a look at www.dynamix.co.nz and search (on the right) for part number PP-MINI12-C6B.  These take up very little space.  PP-MINI12-C5E is the slightly cheaper Cat5 version but I would stick with the Cat6.

These will be available from multiple retailers (see the GZ Price Comparison menu at the top or PriceSpy or similar) and I can see the importer has plenty in stock so delivery should be quick enough.

Any network switch will do.  In reality the broadband router supplied by their internet provider will normally have a 4 port switch built in that might be enough for them.

They used to produce an 8 port patch module - part number HDM-808, designed to fit neatly in the Hills Home Hub units. They're still listed on the DAS website. I got mine through Cherrytree. Not sure where to buy them via retail. I don't believe they ever made a switch - only a hub (HES 108). I just use a D-link switch that I store inside the cabinet.

As an aside, is cherrytree still a thing? I was a member ages ago but let it lapse.

Dont bother going to electrical wholesalers for any of this stuff unless you are a sparky with an account, they will charge insane margins on things.

Cheers all. I get very good pricing through the wholesalers so not worried there.

I have two cabinets in my property. One I thr garage another in the house. I used two of these, one in each location..

Then I patch each port in use to a switch installed in each cabinet. Works well.
