I'm looking for suggestions on good WiFi analysers for Android.

I want to be able to view, select and compare wireless networks in a certain location.

Ideas?

InSSIDer is excellent. It is a paid app now though. Only $11 though.

I use one called, ironically, "Wifi Analyzer". Seems to do what I need it to (identifying the best channel to use for a wifi set up), but my needs are pretty basic and its not used all that often.

I still miss the old inSSIDer.

Fritz make a pretty handy Free app i use reasonably often for this - i however much prefer using the interface in the fritz itself as it picks up other interference and makes an attempt to identify what it would be.

Some of its tools, ild put as a little more than basic.

but for analysing wireless network channels, yeah basic but it does the job.

Thanks folks. Got InSSIDer on Amazon Appstore (a bit cheaper than Google Play).

attenuation? do you mean your signal strength?

Fritz!App WLAN displays signal strength for the currently connected wifi on the My Wireless tab and the signal strength for all wifi's it can see on the Connect tab.

The Location tab has a live graph of the local wifi's with their signal strengths.

The signal strength is measured in dBm which to my understanding is attenuation....  I could be wrong though...

The version I have installed is v1.2.1

Nope... the opposite. Attenuation is *loss* of signal strength. You can't display that without somehow knowing the original signal strength.

guess the definition of attenuation is wrong then?

"Attenuation is a general term that refers to any reduction in the strength of a signal." isnt that what you are measuring on the analyser

but do you need to know the original strength when you are using a linear graph? ie -20dBm to -100dBm?

Defiantly shows signal strength, atlest on the M8, it does not detect 40MHz channel widths for 2.4GHz though.

all im saying is isnt signal strength and attenuation the same thing? just a different way of expressing it.

i used the word attenuation when i should have used signal strength as thats what the app says it measures

I'm having trouble seeing what makes this worth $12 (or $9) over Wifi Analyzer (which I also use). Unless it's no ads.
