Hi people,

Quick question about mutiple access to a router.   From my desktop I can easily acces the router set up by using the ubiquitous 192.168.1.1 URL.

But, can I also access the router using that URL from any other computer on the same network?

Cheers,

R.

You should be able to access the router from any wired (ie cable connected) computer hooked up to the router.

Many wireless routers however will not allow you access from a wireless connection for security reasons and you typically have to enable this to be able to do it.

Thanks for replies guys, and yes I know its not a URL, but was a convenient way to describe entering the IP address into the browser .

I did try using both hard-wired and wireless access but no go with either so far ... any thoights on what may restrict this from happening?

OK, a good old re-boot and the cable connection allows router access.

Would appreciate information how to do same using wireless connection .... can't see anything in the router settings myself.

I havent come accross not being able to access this via wireless myself on the 3-4 different routers I have looked at.

open a command window and type ipconfig /all

your wireless adaptor should have an IP address that is 192.168.1.* if it does you should be ok. if it hasnt then you can manually add one or type ipconfig /renew to see if you can pick one up from the router.

UPDATE:   I can now access the router from the wireless laptop .... not sure what the original problem was but it came clear after waving a dead chicken over the computer <bg>.
