I hope someone can enlighten me as to how I can get an internet connection for a laptop without a router, which I had until I had to replace the router,
I do have the connection with another modem .
Thanks for any help.

Sorry, but I am not really following your query.  Could you elaborate?

Internet options for laptop without a router include a 3G data stick like this or this or a 'Pocket WiFi HotSpot' device for more than one laptop (or tablet etc) to access the internet at a time.

Before replacing the router, I was able to get an internet connection for the laptop without a T stick or the like.

Your Internet provider may be able to talk you through configuring the new router.  Who supplies your broadband?

Is it the standard ADSL or the newer and faster VDSL or UFB Fibre as best you know?  What is the make and model of the new router?

Spark is my ISP.  The router is a Huawei, VDSL2 ready & ADSL2+ ready.

I would phone Spark and have them talk you through resolving the issue.  They will have manuals and guides on hand to walk you through configuring one of their devices.

I'm reluctant to ring Spark, I can't see them wanting to help when I'm wanting a 'free' internet connection. .

OK....  so if you are not paying for Internet, how do you expect it to use it?  Piggy-back off the neighbours?  Your would need their wireless password and might be able to bribe them with a monthly contribution to their bill.

If you had broadband on your home phone line and the service was disconnected, the equipment at the telephone exchange giving your phone line the broadband capability will be been turned off so connecting up a router to your home phone jack won't get you anywhere.

I don't know what you are getting upset over, I have not been piggy backing off the neighbour I have always had my own internet connection, obviously you have no experience on being able to get a connection for a laptop from the 'main' computer connection.
Forget it.

WHAT?

he never said you were, not even attacked you for mentioning that, he said you could do it.

you have hardly even explained you setup or what you even want to do in a way people can help you with

hence all the replies have been speculation

until you bother to help us with info how do you expect us to help you?

Well from your description and lack of information I am amazed if anyone could help you and to be honest with your replies I don't think anyone would want to help you

Post like you are speaking to a family member or friend and give detailed information

You did say the internet connection is free?

anyway, you are most likely wanting to setup the wifi on the laptop to connect to the internet router, unless you can give some more details like the make/model of the router and the make/model/os of the laptop there isn't much chance of getting assistance.

Think you need to take things right back, Explain in detail.

Start with this.

What 'modem' do you currently have?

you mention of a 'free' connection implyed you arent paying for the connection, logically that would point towards something odd, Dynamics was simply trying to get to the bottom of it.

you have mentioned your 'main' computer connection, what do you mean like this? are you saying the modem is directly connected to your 'main' computer and it is getting a connection from there?

Has your router not got wireless and you want to connect a wireless access point to it?

I think I knew what OP means.

He/She has Internet connection but don't know how to connect to this new router.

It seems like there is a modem which is connected to another computer (wired).

If Spark is your ISP (as you stated above), then how is it you think you're after a free connection? If you're already paying Spark then it's all good.

I take it you have a new modem/router on your Spark connection, and you want to connect your laptop up to it?

If that's correct, then connecting your laptop up to your new modem is perfectly fine and is exactly what you would be expected to do.

As mentioned above, Spark will happily talk you through this.
