My girlfriend is moving into a granny flat on her parents property, its approximately 100-150m away from the house on the other side of the garage. Shes wanting internet access. Ethernet over Power adapters wont work due to being on separate circuits. Not allowed to run a cable from the house so realistically I think wireless is the only way to go. Currently there is a wireless AP on the same end of the house as to where the flat is but theres no way the signal will go that far with what they have. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? Ive used directional aerials in the past with some fairly limited success.

Point to point wireless. If you search for that term here on Geekzone you'll find threads that have a fairly good discussion of the options.

I did a similar bridge with two of these https://www.ubnt.com/airmax/nanobeam-ac/ possibly slightly overkill unless you are connecting to fibre internet, but I'm lazy and would rather not replace them in future.

Do not buy a Nanobeam AC (yet). They're pieces of junk and don't work well at all.

Just buy a couple of regular Nanobeams if you want a really tight beam, or a couple of Loco's.

The problem you'll likely get there is that wifi is two-way conversation. While the AP will have the punch to get the 100m to the flat, the devices may have issues getting back.

Interesting, I've not had any issues with my pair yet, what have you found with them that's being a PITA (may want to PM me on this not to distract from the OPs thread)

edit: FYI askelon I'd take sbiddle's opinion over my own for quality of wireless gear in a heartbeat.

I think you really want a dedicated bridge more than just an AP at the source for that sort of distance, especially if using battery powered devices. Something like this would be ideal and they're relatively cheap.

Pretty sure theres no phone going between the two. That was one of my earlier thoughts.

for easier setup get Ubiquiti Nanostation M5
ive tested it at 3kms range with good speed 160mbps :D

if you need to setup it for you, let me know... i have lots of free time as a IT networking student :D
