Hi guys,

I've had a Signet ST2206 working perfectly for 3 years (thanks to the advice on this website), and are now having problems with the phone side.  I have a dial tone on the test/isolate jack, but nothing on any of the phone ports.  Modem working perfectly.

I've disconnected everything from the patch panel.

When calling the phone number from my mobile with the patch lead to the splitter disconnected I get a ringing tone, when the patch lead is connected it gives an engaged signal.  Is the VDSL splitter dead?

something else to try?

thanks

Quite possibly, or a fault on any of the internal lines in the house, water in a socket that you have patched to it, stuffed telephone etc.

Thanks for the response.  As I've disconnected all the patch leads I think I've isolated the panel from dodgy phones/internal lines.

Any idea why the splitter (ST555) would fail?

Yeah they don't last forever, especially the older ST555 ones...

~$20-30 for a new Dynamix one

thanks guys, have just put a new one in and it's all working.  So a simple fix, but hopefully I get more than 3 years out of the new one.

thanks for the help.

Maybe a bit of a voltage spike on the phone line? Who knows, theres no way to identify what caused it. Found one like that at a customer a while ago and replaced it. No apparent cause.

Bypass the splitter and see if the dial-tone comes back. Otherwise check for anything obvious inside the module such as insects etc.

Time to find a new industry!
