Hello!

Yesterday I bought a laptop, a MSI Megabook M670X Sempron 3500+ 512MB, you can see its description at http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1058&maincat_no=135.

I have downloaded the driver from the page that is meant for the network card, MS6833B WLAN Driver.

What happens when I try to connect to the network is that:
1) I find the network
2) I try to connect, and then it asks for the WPA shared key. I type it in, but I get error, that it can not connect.
3) I turn off all security on the router, so everyone can connect, but the still error message still comes, and I can not connect to the network via the wireless at all. I do not understand it, but I hope someone can help me in some way.

The router I have is a Canyon CN-WF514 (http://www.canyon-tech.it/products/connectivity/wireless/CN-WF514)

I hope someone can help me, or give me some advices!

Siggi

What did Canyon say when you contacted them?

Do you have MAC address filtering enabled on the router by chance?

i originally had turned on the MAC address filtering, but then I entered the MAC address of the laptop, but it did not help. When I turned of all security, I also turned of the MAC filtering, but it did not help me either!

If I try to connect it to the router via cable, it works! So it is only the wireless part that doesnt work!

If you have played around with settings, I suggest a full hard reset / restore factory settings, and try again.

  • Start with your DSL user/pass and get that going.
  • Then connect via wireless with no security
  • Then once you know that works, activate WPA security
  • Unless you have specific need, forget MAC filtering

Hello!

I tried to reset the router, no help! What is strange, is also that the stationary computer we have at home, it connects to the internet also via wireless, and it works perfectly... So it is only the laptop that doesnt want to connect (that means it is probably not because some error in the router either).

Maybe there is hardware error in the laptop (though it is strange, as it finds the wireless network and so on, it just doesnt want to connect to it).

Anymore advices?

thanks for all help...

i fixed it! The problem was the router, I needed to go to Canyons webpage, and download a firmware upgrade that supported WIndows Vista! But now it works :) Praise God!
