When our fibre was connected a couple of months ago the ONT was installed in the closest corner of the house so the WiFi signal doesn't reach to the other end of the house like the old ADSL router in the other room previously did. I concluded that a Cat cable needs to be installed running up the wall, about ten metres through the ceiling, and down the wall into the other room where we can then plug the router in.

My only problem is that I am not sure where to look for someone who can install this type of cabling so I was wondering if anyone on here has any recommendations or suggestions about where to find a network cabling installer, or even a rough estimate of how much it might cost?

Thanks, Eth

Depends on how you want it done - do you want the cable hidden inside the wall cavity or can it be run on the surface of the wall with plastic trunking?

Based on your description I'd say parts would be under $100 and 1-3 hours work depending on how you'd like it done and any unexpected challenges along the way

I'm a DIYer that has done this sort of thing before, I'm able to help you out with this, PM if interested

Like Nick said it depends how super tidy you want it.

If you want it all inwall it will cost you a fair bit, if your happy with surface mounted conduit, somewhat less (and can be done by pretty much anyone with the tools and a bit of know how, even done yourself if your game)

In wall isn't hard, provided there's some space in the ceiling above. You just need drill extension bits and enough smarts to not drill out the wall. If the ONT is on an external wall with no gable end above, it gets a lot harder.

I'd suggest the time to do it wouldn't be much different than using capping and casing.

Personally I think using capping and casing instead of drilling some holes is plain lazy.

Buying a suitable auger and extensions could easily cost you more than it would cost to get someone in to do it, so not really suitable for DIY etc.
