Hey geeks,

Looking for a new router for a house that is UFB eligible, after a lengthy consents process which may take months and may not pass.
In the mean time, I'll be on ADSL.

I spent a bit of time on helpdesks and experienced all the brands and models of the prior decade or so. Wondering what people are recommending today though, at a higher end.

  • My past experiences with TP Link were fairly good. They seem medium range and reliable.

  • Netcomm were cheap and solid but died quickly.

  • Dlink were terrible for port forwarding, and lately got hard to set up and manage.

  • Linksys was good but then went bad, and then were bought by Belkin who were terrible for port forwarding and compatibility with other devices.

  • I hear good things about Fritzbox but they're pricey.

  • Netgear were solid, but I had a few issues with later models.

I've seen some models offer nice displays with data transfer rates and the like. This would be nice to have.

What's your favourite, and why? :D

Please have a look at the other 1/2 dozen threads asking the same question, they are there and they do have a good lot of recommendations. but try looking in the UFB/LAN/ISP forums, not the Gadgets/home automation one.

I used to mod a forum once.
It made me mean. I didn't like that, so I stopped.
Don't let people like me make you mean.

Really depends on your requirements. Probably the best all round device for it's price is the Netcomm NF8AC

Thanks, it looks decent enough.
I've got a technical background, but at home I generally don't want to spend time in my router. I'd rather spend it playing games, streaming media, downloading porn, the usual things people do with their internet.
But I would still like some cool features if I find any.

I've got a Linksys WRT1900AC sitting around. Yours for $200 if you want it.

Pair with a Draytek or your regular router for ADSL.
