I have read often that Apple is not 100% Wifi Allinace compliant.

Not disagreeing at all, but is there much detail on why, and what is not fully compliant?

My wifi with TPLink W8960N has been fine, the Huawei 630b was less than ideal and the Huawei 659b seems fine

Just interested.

I have found that Apple WiFi can be patchy with different brands of modem/routers also.
I have an Airport Express and AppleTV which connects fine to my TPLink modem/router, but it does not play nicely with a Dlink Access Point (it connects, and I can watch Netflix on the ATV and Airplay to it, but Airplay and Apple Remote do not work from my (wired) PC to the Airport Express.

I have a friend who is having all sorts of issues with dropouts with an Airport Express connected wirelessly to a Vodafone Router (Don't know model, but it is VF branded - could possibly be a Huawei). It works fine if I take my TPLink round there.

USB?  Connection or copying?

My favouite is copying a file, typiccally a video, from Finder to my WDTV HDD. It will fail as file is in use, but if I do it over and over it will copy, so what changed?
I gather the issue was a cached preview was the file in use, so if i copied the file, selected another file to (To replace the cache  it would work, then sometimes not
Now, I copy a fiolder of that video, never fails.

rMBP boots to ready in 12 sec. It starts with Safari on, it was always ready to use online. Since last Yosemite updates I have to wait another 5, 10, 15 secs.Occasioanlly it wont connect, reboot, its ok.

"It just works"

"Eventually"

with USB Apple are stingy with the voltage the allocate to USB so having multiple USB devices connected diminishes performance rapidly. Also, copying from or to USB is slow on Apple.

Because apple want their own standard for everything so everything in the apple universe works with each other but when you try and introduce any other product something has issues.

same deal with apple pay,

the ultimate reason is to get more money out of consumers by forcing them to buy apple products.

I can see that, especaily for Apple,  but by not being compliant with wifi isnt going to sell 15 million Airport Extreme Base Stations. It did for me admittedly
but that was going to happen for dual band AC upgrade anyway

We've been servicing Apple equipment for a while now and are yet to have anyone come in with a wi-fi issue so not sure how widespread this problem is?

I have my own MacBook Pro and haven't had any problems connecting to all sorts of different brands of wi-fi devices.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

You mean current don't you? USB is fixed at 5V but different ports have different current ratings.

I dont feel its widespread, but the online chatter shows it to be an issue for many. Given Apples non 100% compliance with the Wifi Alliance (which I've read often) I'd assume its down to certain modems/chipsets or certain features or lack of?  Assuming that modems are 100% compliant across the board, any issues would appear to be Apple based. My TPLink W8960N was fine, the 630b played up only with Apple, 659b seemed fine in the short time I used it. The 630b would cause random Apple devices take ages to connect. Yosemite has changed things. My rMBP was on the internet ready for use when the laptop was booted up, 12 seconds, now its an age later. I switched a year or so ago, all the years I used Windows PC's/laptops, never an issue. The chatter to fix issues, especially wifi has grown a lot IMHO.

You all might find this todays article concerning Yosemite 10.10.4 beta 4 that has just been released by Apple: Apple Replaces Problematic 'Discoveryd' Process With mDNSresponder in 10.10.4 Beta 4

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

WiFi issues with Apple can be a major problem. As somebody who's job it is to install WiFi systems I'd say probably 75% of WiFi related support issues are with Apple products.

If you want an insight into the issues simply read the support forums of Aerohive, Ruckus or Ubiquiti. They're full of various threads.

I have experienced wifi issues that were specific to the iPhone 5 & 5S, and presumably the 5C. They would frequently drop tethering connections to the laptops due to their overly-aggressive power management.

Earlier models didn't have the issue, nor did any other brands.

Intel did release an updated driver which seemed to resolve the issue. The problems definitely exist. Whether you could qualify it as Intels fault or Apples fault in this instance, I'm not sure.

Given how massively flaky the WiFi has been on my MacBook Air until the most recent update, I'm going to point the finger at Apple.

I'm a bit of an Apple fan, but it has to be all Apple's fault. Windows just worked. Apple for me just worked too, until Yosemite. Some routers aren't that Apple happy, others are fine it seems. sbiddle has mentioned on numerous times that Apple is not 100% compliant. But the link above may resolve a number of Yosemite based issues.
My 630b router is fine, I gather, except for Apple. My devices would take a while to connect, a long while, it was random. Slightly a pain when your having a fanta watching video on the iPad outside and your on 4G! I blame Apple for that. And I base this on what I read excessively on forums, Apple forums, MR being one example, where many users want a new OSX as a bug fix, not a feature release, and comments from experts in the field.. Ive seen wifi comments growing over the last year or more, beyond the usual "how do I improve my wifi" I have an Airport Extreme now, life is good, but it shoulda been good before too. My issues were minor, Id hate to live with flaky wifi 24/7 as some appear to do
