What is the best method to update modem settings without DLM thinking it has lost connection and resetting the profile? I have read to leave the modem off for 15 minutes. Do I physically disconnect the modem when I apply the update and leave it unplugged from the wall for 15 minutes? I'm using a ASUS DSL-AC68U. Hopefully someone can clarify this.

How long have you had VDSL for?,

If it's been a while then I wouldn't worry as one disconnection isn't going to do that much of a difference to your DLM. If you're new to vdsl you're more likely to be affected.

it doesnt reset your profile ever time you reconnect, it will alter your connection if you have multiple resets close together. When i was playing with my new modem i think i managed 3-4 resets in one day and still had the same connection speed.

I would only be resetting my modem on the first day of the 10 day training period, after that i would leave it for the rest of the 10 to make sure i got the most of my line.

i dont think leaving it off makes any difference

I've been on VDSL a long time now. For a long time I enjoyed 58Mbps but it dropped to 42Mbps. It has since dropped further so I bought an ASUS DSL-AC68U hoping that some of its tweaking features may enable me to squeeze out a little more speed. I'm reasonably close to the cabinet and my stats aren't bad but I can't seem to get back to my glory days :)

Crosstalk will be to blame for your speed loss most likely.

1 disconnection in a day wont cause you to loose DLM-1, so you should be okay just download the firmware, remove disconnect the line make sure everything is set and plug it back in. then you will be in your safe ground of only a single reconnection.

yep will be cross talk, the more people sign up to VDSL the worse everone elses connections get.

do any of your setting changes with the modem disconnected from the phone line that way if you have to restart it more than once the modem only thinks its disconnected once.
