My parents have a Technicolour TGN582n Spark-issued router on their ADSL2 connection. The wireless is pretty weak, there's not enough lan ports on it and my son isn't able to play Splatoon online multiplayer on his Wii U because of some kind of issue which I have struggled to diagnose (but it works fine at our own house). I tried to add the Wii to the DMZ of the router but could not make it work - searches suggest I'd be putting the entire router into DMZ mode, and when I followed the instructions, I could find the Wii in the network list but not in the drop-down for the final option to activate DMZ.

So, long story short, I'm after something with an easily-configurable DMZ, good wireless coverage and more than 3 lan ports that will work on Spark ADSL. I'm not hugely tech-savvy but am confident enough to configure a new router to Spark's settings.

Does anyone have a recommendation? Ideally under $250.

As an alternative, my sister has a router sitting around somewhere that might be an option. Is it possible to put the Technicolour into bridge mode?

Edited for auto-correct fail.

Try calling 123 to upgrade to a Huawei 659b, I'm unsure of cost, I assume it can be obtained on a  contract. Its ADSL, VDSL, Fibre ready, 4 Gbit LAN, Gbit WAN, AC wifi, dual 2.4/5Ghz

Thanks for the suggestion - it's $149 for the unit if they don't want to lock in for another year. Fibre is due no less than 12 months from now so perhaps I can get them to sign up for a year on unlimited and get it for free in the meantime. It won't solve the immediate issue of school holiday Wii entertainment (unless we can get one straight away from the Spark outlet at the mall?) but sounds like a good long-term solution.

Isn't $149 for the 630b? Website showed that I couldn't see a price for the 659b.

Possibly I looked at the wrong one - but given that I've now discovered their max line speed is 4.5/0.7, it appears that upgrading the modem might be an exercise in futility. I suspect the best course of action is to wait for fibre to arrive next year. Thanks for your suggestion though. I'll make sure they get the Huawei when they sort their connection out.
