Hello,
I am wanting to upgrade the standard Spark Huawei router with a new Gigabit one. I am looking at the Netgear R7000 Nighthawk as it seems to get good reviews. But I was wondering if anyone is using this and if it works on the Spark UFB system. I am on the 100/20 plan at present, or if another router is to be recommended (need wireless and gigabit ports)
Also if you do use this is it easy to set up? (use Unotelly and Netflix)

thanks,
David

I've just replaced my Netgear R7000 with an Edgerouter Lite. The Netgear R7000 is a very good router with good WiFi, have been using mine with the Tomato firmware (see here: https://advancedtomato.com/)

I am looking to sell my R7000 if you're interested? Just flick me a PM with an offer. I used it on Snap UFB on a 200/200 connection fine and I know it works no problems on Spark too. If you like I can preconfigure it for you either with Tomato or the stock firmware before sending it out.

Thanks for the offer Michael, but I already have access to one at a good price (not been used), so was really just checking if it worked with the Spark fiber system (Vlan10 tagging? which seems to be needed to work)

thanks again,
David

Yep works no problems both with the stock firmware and aftermarket firmware.

i have a R7000 and with the DDwrt firmware, its good . lots functions, vpn, ddns,
its quite easy to setup,, you can use ur current Huawei as a default gateway just set to bridge mode(if you want to avoide the double NAT), and on R7000 , set to pppoe

You will never have to do this.

Just setup the R7000 with VLAN 10 on the WAN port + user@xtrabb.co.nz (username) with any password as long as it isn't blank. Really straight-forward to setup.

If you haven't already set it up, note that you will need to upgrade to the latest firmware for VLAN tagging functionality. It does not exist out of the box.

Source: I have one.

And no, please don't ask me how to set it up with UFB, as I have not tried it. I am using it with the Huawei for VDSL, and I'm letting the Huawei do the VLAN tagging.
