Laptop was successfully updated to Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago.  Around the same time got UFB up and running. Everything has been going swimmingly, but suddenly on startup tonight I get the dreaded yellow triangle in the network icon in the toolbar. Internet connection is 'limited'.

Going through the standard windows trouble shooter says that "[connection name] doesn't have a valid IP configuration".

Exactly the same fault on Ethernet and WiFi.  Only effecting one computer (Mine!!!)

All other devices are working as normal. Some on cable and some on WiFi, no issues whatsoever.  Dr Google has very little on this for Win10.

Computer, modem and network adapter have been restarted multiple times.  No apparent updates installed lately (and as it only effects one computer?)

Well outside my area of knowledge here.  Help?

Open the command prompt. I think on windows 10 you can do this by right clicking on the start button.
Otherwise click start, type cmd on the keyboard and it will appear in the list.

The black box of happiness appears. It will have some text you can ignore.

Enter the command
net start dhcp client
and press enter.

Hopefully it will say
The requested service has already been started.

Tell us what it says.

Some viruses or antivirus software mess with it.
Other thing i would suggest is just a windows system restore back a week.

I get "The requested service has already been started...more help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182"

Just running through Malwarebytes and virus scan now.  Nothing so far

This sounds like the old DAD (Duplicate Address Detection) issue that plagues Server 2012.  Try googling for the fix and attempt that.

Solved.

In desperation started digging through the older posts relating to 8.1 and 7 and found this:
http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2079064/ethernet-doesnt-valid-configuration-notification-windows.html

I have not idea what I just did but the following from the above page fixed it immediately:

1. On the opened Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the IPCONFIG /RELEASE command and press Enter.
2. Once the command is executed successfully, and the cursor starts blinking, type the IPCONFIG /RENEW command and hit Enter.

Hopefully it doesn't send a signal to start an alien invasion or something...

Cheers

Thats interesting - it possibly points to a deeper configuration issue but glad you solved it.
