Hi
Just a couple of questions regarding the USB Wirelss Dongles avaliable.

My brother and his fiance are getting TCL cable installed tommrrow.
The laptop is going to be int he office where the HighSpeed is being installed the desktop is going to be outside in the garage - which is very close to the house.

Now my question is, I if they buy a Wireless router connect it inside, providing it has good signal stregnth, can I just buy a Wireless dongle and plug it into the Desktop outside. It's just a basic $999.00 DELL desktop they used to sell at The Warehouse

Any info would be great

I had (Have) a DSE PCI wireless card in my desktop and with my wireless router in teh same room no more than about 5 meters away I could onyl get a 3/4 signal.  I went and paid some decent money for a Linksys WUSB54GC (or somethinglike that) and the signal even at range was excellent but I had some major speed issues for downstream so took that one back.  If you find a good USB dongle let me know as I am in the market for one.  Looking at netgear next.

The Belkin ones are excellent. I had been using one for the last year. F5D7500 I think it was.

I just switched to a Netgear WG311 PCI adpater

If you find you dont have very good coverage with your USB wireless...

Have a look at this website...  http://www.usbwifi.orcon.net.nz

Worked for me..

Was running 800m Link with USB wifi just fine..

Metal garage?  If so you'll need the dongle infront of a window, or ina plastic enclosure screwed on the outside etc - you can use USB extention cables.  Faraday cage and all that.
