Anyone know how to get into a Netcomm NF4V which is apparently running some custom firmware from NOW NZ?

I get logon prompt from 192.168.20.1:8080 but admin/admin does not work.

This is ex-NOW, customer tried to send it back but they did not respond so I want to reflash with standard Netcomm FW.

There is often a way to put midrange routers into 'recovery mode' and remotely reflash the firmware with a fresh image. I've had a look at http://support.netcommwireless.com/product/vdsl/nf4v and can't see any instructions around this at a quick glance. You might want to email Netcomm.

You could also phone Now NZ and ask nicely for the credentials. This page https://support.nownz.co.nz/support/solutions/articles/5000544067-why-can-t-i-access-the-router-settings- suggests they might not hand them over and instead change them for you from their super-secret set of default credentials.

Hey!

The Netcomm's that NOW sends out are usually provided on a rental basis.

Therefore NOW owns them and wouldn't give out the admin credentials.

Can confirm they are rented from NOW - I dont think I have come across one that has been sold by them.

I also dont think they were ever sold via any retail channels - the only way to get those (awesome) routers was via an ISP who leased them to you.

Two major disties have stock of these.

Can't say I've ever had a good experience with Netcomm support so caveat emptor.

Dang I wish I knew that a year ago. They have a DECT base station built in which would have been awesome at the time.

pretty plentiful on trademe too, i actually just picked up one this evening for a project and likely to grab a few more if it pans out..

I just retired one today (okay, it's after midnight so that'd be 'yesterday') which was playing the part of VDSL modem to my Asus RT-AC68U router. It played the part quite well. Purchased from a distie.
