Good eventing

I would appreciate any assistance :-),  Is it  possible to reconfigure a surplus Huawei HG659b gateway from Spark.   I want to use it as just a plain old wireless access point  to plug into one of the home switches.  I have tried this out of the box and you can access the HG659 wirelessly fine but it keeps trying to connect to the internet and Wireless traffic does not get routed to the home server via one of the Lan ports on the device.

Thanks for any tips

Regards
Mike Drummond

Yep. It is straight forward to configure it as an access point.

1. Login to it
2. Navigate to Home Network -> LAN Interface
3. Scroll down to DHCP Server  and untick it (disable the DHCP server)
4. Scroll back up to LAN Interface settings.
5. Assign an IP address in there which is on your network outside your existing DHCP settings in your other router (eg. 192.168.1.1 -> 192.168.1.100) I would assign it something easy to remember such as 192.168.1.200.
6. Save the settings.

You will lose connection to the router as it changes IP address. Now plug a lan cable into one of the LAN plugs on the switch and into one of the LAN plugs on your HG659.

That's it. Let us know how you go.

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Thanks that's great  its working now :-).  I had not thought to turn the  DHCP server  component off.  So it was assigning a different range of IP addresses to devices connecting than the rest of the network

Thanks again for the prompt reply

Cheers
