OK so you just loaded new firmware into your HG659 and now it’s a brick (only the power light works) !

Don’t freak ! Here are the steps to unbrick it:

1.Make sure you have a copy of the last known firmware before you bricked it. I.e whatever was running last from Vodafone or Spark.

2.Set-up your PC Ethernet port to a static IP as below:

IP 192.168.1.10

Subnet 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.1.1

3.Plug a network cable into LAN1 on the HG659 and of course on the PC.

4.Fire up browser and have it ready on address 192.168.1.1 (i.e ready to hit enter)

5.You now need to enter Rescue mode on the HG659:

Turn off the power on the side of the HG659

Push and hold the RESET button the HG659

Power up the HG659, do not let go of RESET

You will see LAN 1 flash a few times

After about 5-10 seconds hit enter on Chrome

A screen will come up to load firmware

Choose the last known firmware that worked and upload

Wait about 1-2 minutes, you will see LAN1 flashing as it uploads, then WAN flash, then LAN1-4 all flash

After all this you should be all good to go !

6.Set your PC Ethernet port back to DHCP and do ipconfig in CMD prompt and you should see the router assign you an IP and Gateway

7.Your now back, have fun
