Any time my flatmate is watching video on her iPad it takes the full bandwidth, blocking out every other device. Laptops, browsers, youtube, android apps, PS4, nothing works.

The router is a Fritzbox 7490. The connection is 1.6Mbit down and 504k up. I've tried removing the Fritzmedia video streaming prioritisation. And tried prioritising Any, surfing, bittorrent. FTP server and http server for my laptop but it makes no difference at all.

Is there any way force it to let us all share the internet?

What your likely struggling with is upstream congestion from icloud syncs.

Given your line speeds you have quoted, I would recommend at-least a master filter installation.

or the streaming video is just completely saturating the downstream which would explain why other things are so slow

this is probably more a case of talking to the person about their behaviour than finding a way to share the connection via hardware/software

Yeah, below about 8mbit downstream, it congests too hard. Many isps dont alter their queue sizes for slower connection...

I think you might be right. Either she is addicted to watching video every moment she's home or it could be syncing. I thought it was the iPod because it's always connected when she is home but I just tried kicking her Macbook pro off the network and everything came right again. What is a master filter and how does one go about doing it?

I'll talk to her once I have a better idea what is going on. She's the stereotypical non technical mac user and probably isn't even aware that they can cause problems.

Way out in remote Point Chevalier. For non Aucklanders that's next to Westmere and Ponsonby, about 6km from the CBD. Or about 10 meters from the fibre box they installed on the pole by the road for us six weeks ago.

Flick me or @hio77 a PM with your address and we'll see if a Master Filter is worthwhile in your case. Nothing worse than slow internet, even my parents out in the middle of rural nowhere are on 85/30Mbit VDSL ;)
