Ok in the last 7 days I have brought a Linksys WAG325N. I managed to get over 100Mbs but had weird drop offs and certificate errors particularily with my 802.11g device. I also found that the Xbox 360 wireless adapter will not work with it due toa firmware upgrade Linksys did sometime back and have still not rectified it. So I took it back and got a Netgear DG834N and I cant get a connection anything over 54Mbps sometiems it drops back to 24Mbps with me sitting right next to it. Now I know 802.11n is still draft an not due for ratification until Nov 08 by OMG how bloody frustrating. After an hour in a chat session with Linksys they finally agreed with what I told them and they said to hardware my xbox in the interim.... this defeats the whole purpose of wireless and MIMO especially when sharing the internet connection with other devices.
All I want is a fast enough wireless connection to stream media to my 360, a bit of future proofing and as less cables as possible. I also brout the Linksys Pap2t device so I can move to VFX so though an ADSL2+ router would be better equiped to deal with VOIP.
Well I have gone back to my trustee USR 9106 device and will have to see how that goes with VOIP but its signal strength for wireless is lacking in a 2 storey house.
There is definately something going on out ther in regards to compatibility issues between the Intel 4965AGN cards and wireless N routers particularily with Netgear but no one seems in a hurry to fix it let alone acknowledge it. Thisis a bit of a worry IMHO as they are a lot of laptops out there based on the intel cards due to the centrino platform arrrrggghhh....
I guess this is what you get for trying to be an early adopter. I guess the Netgear goes back and I sit and wait or maybe just upgrade to a Linksys wireless g device like the WAG200
