Sweet!

First, I would like to thank Michael, GoWifi, and MF for hosting this giveaway.

I shall make good use of it. Our house is two level and roomyish, with ethernet in most rooms. Wifi is downstairs, and works well, Airport Extreme. I work from home, and haven't got around to setting up the upstairs living room, so only my work connection is connected there, haven't got around to getting a switch for the Gaming PC, and PS4. I will use the R201 there, connected to ethernet, giving me LAN for the PC and PS4, and allowing 5Ghz upstairs, and better 2.4.

Now, I need some info, and where better to ask.

1. I assume I should use the same SSID/PW as the 2.4 and 5 downstairs, to allow roaming?

2. I've read, probably from here, that overlapping access points can be an issue, i.e. too much overlap. causing lack of roaming switchover. Am I wise to run the R201 at full transmit power on the to allow that to take over the roam? Or turn down the AE? (If I can, I'll need to check) Probably only an issue with 2.4.

3. I will connect the R201 to wall LAN which is from the patch panel HG659b

Cheers, and thanks again!

This is potentially a better router than the HG659b if you were going to use it as a router otherwise using it as an AP will mean simply turning off DHCP and bridging the WAN port to the switch / setting the AP on a different channel with the same name + security settings to allow for roaming. You can adjust the output power of the R201 to better cover just the upstairs.

It should be pretty straight-forward :) and congrats!

Congrats! If you've got the time, I'd appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the R201 once you've got it up and running. @michaelmurfy has already started a thread here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=199158
