Hi

I just moved house and moved my VDSL from the old house to our new one, so am using the same modem I had, off the top of my head I think its the Technicolor TG589vn V2(I'm with Spark).

I have noticed that browsing seems to be quite flaky, I can go to Google and 9 times out of 10 it will work, but on the 10th time it will say the page cannot be displayed.

Continuous ping test to www.google.co.nz does not drop, even though it wont load the page in the browser, does the same thing for IE and Chrome.

Gameplanet.co.nz seems to be another site it has major intermittent issues with, will load ok one time, time out and not load a minute later.

I have looked at my attenuation settings and I think they are in a good range, will post when I get home, although the SN I think is around 9.0 which I believe is low and wondering if that might be causing the issues I am seeing?

I have rang Spark and they did all there tests and told me nothing is wrong, but there is!!!

Anyone else have any other thoughts?

Appreciate any help.

Cheers

Craig

Noise margin should be reasonably static at 9dB - it's a target the line cards aim for when negotiating a sync rate - so that's not really an issue. Be interested to see the attenuation and sync rates though.

Ok thanks, will post other settings when I get home.

Other thing I thought of, does VDSL need a filter if you have another jackpoint with a phone on it?

Going to upgrade my modem as well, going for a DrayTek Vigor DV130 ADSL/VDSL Modem Router, hopefully that might help.

It's _highly_ likely that you will need a splitter install for best VDSL performance. Please PM me your account and phone number, I'll do a 24 hour test and will be able to see if the DSL is playing up.
