I live in the North Porirua area and had 100/20 UFB installed in February, since then I have perceived that I get a lot of mini outages, more than with VDSL using same ISP - a web site does not load, I find I cannot ping external IP addresses for a short period.

I have a smallwall router running on an ALIX board directly connected to the ONT, so smallwall does the PPPoE login. The ALIX board may be a bit underpowered, but I still get a measured 86Mb/s with ALIX CPU running at 90%.

So I have looked through my router logs and find many PPPoE logins preceded by WAN interface link DOWN lines. Many of the outages are a few minutes and are pretty annoying and have occurred several times on some days.
Here is a (sanitised) list for Sept:

Sep 2 16:12:22 smallwall mpd: [L1] PPPoE: connection successful

Sep 24 13:49:40 smallwall mpd: [L1] PPPoE: connection successful
Sep 24 14:15:09 smallwall mpd: [L1] PPPoE: connection successful
Sep 25 10:52:35 smallwall mpd: [L1] PPPoE: connection successful
Sep 26 15:48:21 smallwall mpd: [L1] PPPoE: connection successful
Sep 27 16:09:14 smallwall mpd: [L1] PPPoE: connection successful
Sep 28 17:42:30 smallwall mpd: [L1] PPPoE: connection successful
Sep 29 01:34:20 smallwall mpd: [L1] PPPoE: connection successful

Is this common?
Is it due to an underpowered router/firewall (unlikely)?
Is it unique to my ISP ?
Is it some other reason?

Could be an ISP issue or an issue with your setup..

Would suggest trying a different router for a few days and see if that resolves the issue (annoying I know) - if not then probably an ISP or LFC issue..
