Hi all - have had a good read of posts on installing ONTs and locations. What I could not find is any thoughts on placing the ONT within a Rack/Cabinet so I can access the UPS in there. The rack is within a cupboard and on casters of which I pull out every now and again to maintain of which I have a nice cable loom (LAN,Aerial,Speakers, etc) that follows. I have a 5u panel that I was thinking of mounting it on.

Would the installers allow their fibre run from the ETP to join my loom and connect to the ONT within this rack? Or does it have to be mounted on a wall.

Thanks in advance

you can request to have the ont installed where ever you want, but you may be charged for extras such as  concealing the low smoke in the wall and so on as chorus and uff are lazy and cant be bothered doing the job, the easiest solution is to get some low smoke tube from either chorus or uff and run this your self or get your sparky to run this to the location that you want and then uff/chorus will install the ont in that location, i know when i brought my house the ont had been removed from the wall for decorating and the fiber had been broken and missing the power supply, uff wanted to charge me something stupid to repair this and fix it for me and it was installed in a location that was so useless that i would need to run a lead to the ont, they pretty much mounted the ont directly behind the ont so they didnt have to do any work to do a proper job or a quality install, usually they splice the fiber in the etp and then again in the ont but this install was just spliced in the ont.

so i managed to get ahold of some low smoke and some fiber and run it out in to my shed where i have all my servers and re splice it for free as we have a splicer at work and saved me a whole lot of $$$$$$

Thanks for that! Have a draw wire in the wall in preparation to help with the threading. It is the yellow wire (on right from ETP) in https://q.chorus.co.nz/file/61763 that I am hoping they will be happy to have as part of the LAN cable loom so that the ont can sit within the rack.
