Hi,

I have a Dovado GO router with Huawei E8278 3G USB dongle to connect to the internet. This router is used as the DHCP server and internet is served via WiFi.

What i want to do is to add a traffic monitoring and a firewall for all wireless clients. An idea that i had was to use a spare Asus N55U wireless router for it (it has both traffic monitoring and a firewall).

However i'm not sure how to configure it.

I do know that i need to disable DHCP and Wireless on Dovado, enable DHCP and Wireless on Asus, but how do i tell Asus that internet is provided by a different device?

Any help is appreciated.

Routing only occurs between the LAN and WAN interfaces, if this Asus device has a xDSL WAN interface then it can't be used for such a purpose.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

As above, not possible with the Asus N55U. The Asus N55U has an xDSL (RJ11) WAN port. You need a router with the  traffic monitoring and firewall capabilities you want that has an Ethernet (RJ45) WAN port.

You should then be able to put the Dovado GO into bridge mode, connect it's LAN port to the new routers WAN port and go from there.

...Or you could just get a new 3G/4G router that has the traffic monitoring and firewall capabilities you want. Then you just have the one unit instead of three...
