Hi,

We are currently using a RouterBoard 951G 2HnD for a 200/200 connection. Soon we are getting Gigabit from NOW and looking at which router would be most suitable. Preferably running RouterOS (current network setup with a few routerOS scripts)

Would any of these able able to support the Gigabit Fiber connection

RouterBOARD RB750Gr3
MikroTik RB3011UIAS-RM

Or do you have any other recommendations?

Thanks for the link, had a quick look but could not find if the models I listed would be suitable. Looking at the spec page the second one looks like it would work great just not sure about the first one

If you already have the RB951 then the RB750Gr3 would be an easy choice. Dam impressive little box for $100!!!!

The only thing is it doesn't do well with PPPoE normally topping out at around 600Mbit from my tests - works great for IPoE connections however. I am not quite sure what NOW uses but actually thought they kinda enforce the use of their own router.

Also make sure if you're signing up with NOW for the first time you understand it is a CGNAT connection and to get a public IP it costs $20/mo.

Might have to go for the second option then, as NOW does use PPPoE. We are currently with them already with a public IP (yea $20 p/m per location unfortunately).

Or how about trying the Edgerouter Lite? Excellent router and is what I personally use. There isn't much of a learning curve going to them if you're used to Mikrotik.

Ahh right, that makes sense I suppose. I have only tried it on a 200/200 in the office and it didn't even really sweat. Then tried it just double NAT'd on the LAN (ie IP WAN interface rather than PPPoE) and it could do Gigabit "WAN" to LAN - but thinking about it fasttrack would have been doing it's thing.

The RB750 tops out at 350mbit or so.. I would go for the edge router lite over the 750.

edge router lite or edge router x sfp for abit more flexability of adding aps (unifi of course), or build a box and load pf sense or sophos UTM

Hi, how does the RB2011 and RB3011 compare to the RB750 if you know or have that info? I see the RB2011 is not on the sticky for routers, is it that it can't handle 1gbps pppoe or is it an old model replaced by the RB3011? Are there any others you would recommend. I can handle the learning curve (I will curse and swear but enjoy it all the same).

My usage is 1gps fibre PPPoE connection, a couple of small web servers and game server (all on same box) and 3 other desktop PC's, a gaming console and then the odd guest laptop and phones etc. Wireless I can handle outside the router if required.

The RB2011 is an older device. While the RB3011 hasn't replaced it as such (the RB2011 is still available) there is no good reason to buy a RB2011 due to the performance of the RB3011 being significantly better, and also having all Gigabit ports. The RB2011 will not route 1Gbps if you start bogging it down with firewall rules, and it's actually really easy to bog it down so much it'll struggle to route more than 100Mbps.

Thanks for all the recommendations, have ordered the RB3011. It should arrive by Friday for me to test out. Will update with some speedtest results once I get it up and running

Yea RB2011 is really only just good enough to do 100Mbps. We give our basic customers with 100/100 the RB962 (hAP AC) which is basically the same processor. These sites just have basic firewall rules and no VPN, but start loading it up with VPN's and a heavier set of firewall rules and it really struggles.
