Giday all... I followed the XP SP2 guide to setup PAN connection to activesync with the new service pack.

I have a Belkin F8T001 USB dongle, and am linking to a Win XP Pro box.
As instructed in the guide, I first uninstalled the Belkin software.
After rebooting, I went to the new Bluetooth preference prog in control panel.

The hardware tab showed the same 2 devices as per the guide.
(MS Enumerator and the Blutonium entry)

I use an IPAQ 2210.
I switched it on, and made sure it was set to discoverry mode.

From the XP box, I chose 'Add Device' and it found the Pocket_PC.
It then wants to exchange a passkey, so I 'chose one'

I then get prompted on the Pocket_PC to enter that key.. BUT this is where things fut out.
ie. When I enter in that key.. the XP box comes up with an error saying key could not be exchanged, and no matter what.. I can't get the device to exchange key.

If I add a device and then choose 'no key' then it creates incoming and out going serial ports, but when I go to activesync.. IT pops up with a requestor asking for the passkey.

heh heh heh.. this is driving me freakin insane. (maniacal type laugh) See!!!!

IF I use the original Belkin Software, then I can connect no problemo using the Network (null modem) profile.

I have tried the dongle on another Xp Box, and it does same thing, so I don't think it's the computer.

Any ideas people?

Are you using numbers only, I guess? Some older devices don't like PIN with non-numeric characters.

Other than this, can you make sure the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Firewall is OFF or properly configured. It will interfere with normal Bluetooth communications.

Yes.. I am using a numeric key.
I did turn off the firewall.

From what you suggest, it does sound like a firewall issue.
Thankyou very much for the reply... I will look into that.
Is their anything specific I need to do to configure the XP SP2 firewall for Bluetooth?.

Still having no luck I'm afraid.
The Firewall doesn't appear to be the problem at all.

For whatever reason, The IPAQ and the Belkin dongle just won't exchange pass keys.
It's rather annoying.

'Solved'

Found the solution.
I neeeded to install the 2210 IPAQ 'Bluetooth Security fix' from the HP support site.
Apparently this fix lets you use alpha-numeric keys, and although my key was only numeric.. it would appear that the XP SP2 software supports the alpha-numeric standard.
