I have spent last few days running thru The Geekzone Bluetooth Guides, even the "Things to check if Internet Connection Sharing or ActiveSync via Bluetooth is not working" and related thread on this forum but cant seems to find the solution to my problem.

Both my laptop and desktop is running Win2000 Pro SP4. The bluetooth on my desktop is Billionton USB(CF)BT02-B and on my laptop is MSI USB. I have paired both of the device and have tested files transfer working successfully.

I wish to share my current ADSL connection with my laptop. My ADSL is connected via a cable modem to my desktop LAN Card.

When network access between my desktop and laptop is established, My Network Places of my desktop is showing 3 active connections - Bluetooth Network, Local Area Connection and WinPoet V6.01 Connection. Firewall is shutdown. When network access is established, the icon of network access with my desktop is showing green and the bluetooth icon at system tray tray turned green as well indicated network has been established.

Desktop - Local Area Connection
ip address: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Internet Connection Sharing

Question :

1. Is it normal to show 3 active connections?

2. I have set share internet connection on Local Area Network, is this right?

3. Do I need to set Internet Connection Sharing with my ADSL connection - WinPoet v6.01? I do see the same option to share internet connection with this connection.

At my laptop, only Bluetooth Network is active. Local Area Connection is configured for my USB wireless LAN CARD. Firewall is shutdown. When network access is established, the icon of network access with my desktop is showing green and the bluetooth icon at system tray tray turned green as well indicated network has been established.

Laptop ip configuration
ip address: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask : 255.255.255.0

Question :

1. Do I need to configure another Local Area Connection as in my desktop?

2. I have also set my IE to connect via LAN setting but it still could not connect to internet.

I have checked thru all the points listed on the guides several times and everything seems set perfectly accordingly but the internet connection is just not sharing.

If I have successfully configure my laptop, I will move on next to share internet connection with another of my pc and also connecting via Bluetooth GPRS modem. I have got all the gadget in place but looks really sad for not being able to use them. Hopefully some expert could shed some light to help me. Thanks a million in advance.

The Internet Connection Sharing should be on the connection facing the Internet, in this case it seems to be WinPoet.

You list more than one 192.168.0.1 addresses. ICS needs this address on the Bluetooth adapter. If this is used anywhere else in your network then you'll have a conflict and it won't work.

I suggest you reconfigure your adapters, check the guide again and then test the network.

I have set WinPoet Connection to have Internet Connection Sharing. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) only has setting for Ip address but not subnet mask. When I tried to set 192.168.0.1 here, I lost my ADSL connection.

I set Ip Address : 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 at Bluetooth Connection but laptop failed to connect to internet. I tried to the set the same set of no at Local Area Connection but with the same problem. Am I using the right Ip No ? Or are there any points or steps that I have missed?

I would greatly appreciate your help and advise to get it working.

Regards,
Wilson

An alternative is to
  • leave you configuration as it is
  • create a Bridge between your WinPoet connection and the Bluetooth adapter
  • configure Bluetooth for Private Network Access, not Internet Sharing
  • manually configure an IP address and DNS addresses on your laptop

Conenct the laptop by clicking My Bluetooth Places, double-click the other computer's icon and then double-click on the Network Access service.

I have tried base on your latest suggestion but it do not work either. I have done some screen shot on the setting that I have did and uploaded at http://www.devil-club.com/bluetooth.pdf . Hopefully this could facilitate you to point me to the right direction.

    Thanks,
