I have a Compaq NX7000 laptop (WinXP). I travel between 2 offices, and have a docking station in each office. Connected to each docking station is a D-Link DBT-120 bluetooth adapter.

I have no problems pairing my Dell Axim X30 and Motorola V600 to the laptop. Everything works great.

But here's my question: it seems like I have to "re-pair" my bluetooth connection when I switch from one docking station to the other. Is this because each bluetooth adapter has a unique hardware identifier?

For example, I go to office #1 and dock my laptop. In order to ActiveSync my X30, I need to pair the X30 with the bluetooth adapter. I only need to do this the first time I need to setup a bluetooth connection, regardless of the number of times I might shutdown/startup. As long as I stay wiith that docking station, the X30 automatically pairs with the bluetooth adapter.

But when I go to office #2, ActiveSync can't authenticate the connection (even though I use the same PIN) and asks to pair the X30 with the bluetooth adapter in the "new" docking station.

Is there any way to keep the pairing info for both docking station bluetooth adapters?

Thanks,
Jeff Shimizu

Yep. Each paired device will have its own key information, which is based on MAC address, date, time, PIN entered, and other factors. This is stored in the registry, and I guess it's a single location. Each time you change the docking station it makes the pairing invalid.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I suppose I can carry just one of the bluetooth adapters around with me!

Thanks,
