I hope this is on topic for this forum..

Hello. Im looking for a beginners guide to setting up synergy.
(control 2 Pc's with 1 Mouse/keyboard).

ive got a Spark Modem - HG659b (fibre) if that info is needed.

The problem Im having is that ive got synerg set up on two computers - Both look as if they're working however they acnt see aech other

"failed to connect to server: address not found for: 192.168.001.069" _ thats the message im getting on my 2nd computer.

In my configuration (my main PC) i have

0 to 1% of the RIGHT of 192.168.001.069 goes to 0 to 98% of 192.168.001.065.

I am wondering - are my percentages correct ? From what ive found on Google , the pages assume uyou just do 5 steps & it goes
(assuming the person knows the other steps in between)

EDIT: i did try to do this by "name" of each computer - didn't work, Ive now got them to use IP addresses - Still didn't work...

Sorry, don't know about Synergy. In scenarios like yours, I prefer to use InputDirector. MouseWithoutBorders was also pretty decent. Note, both are Windows apps.

Thanks - downloaded Input director on both Pc's- but they dont see each other... i think its to do with PORTS.

i'll check the documentation & my Modem too (HG659b)

EDIT: Slave is working - and the master - Slave  192.168.1.65  Didnt respond (when i tried to scan for slaves)..

does anyone know how to alter the modem so port is open ? (does that matter) ?

I think ive got more problems than the above..

Ive created networks "homegroups" on WIN8 & WIN10 machines.. - both using the same wifi connections, but they refuse to see each other. I cant get any connection between them.

BOTH can see the outside internet fine - But they cant see each other..

You might have a problem with both Windows machines thinking they are on a "public" network and as such, will lock things down a lot more.

Try opening the Network and Sharing Center section in Control Panel and have a look. This link will help

Yes & no. Your Wi-Fi AP might be set into isolation mode. This means that it will not allow Wi-Fi connected devices to see each other. This generally is not the default setting for a home AP, only for Guest networks.

Both are on Private networks, but one says "Gman1 3" and the other PC says "Gman1" - but both connected to same wifi channel/password etc..

No worries - i'll research this in the next few days - Though the brand of modem is the ONLY modem recommended / provided by spark for Fibre.

(from what i have read online) - Spark modem HG659b

PS - Is this a WINDOWS problem to fix ?  or a MODEM problem to fix ?

i guess i can buy a new wifi modem - that handles Fibre ? - no problems ?

but if i do, will it ease / solve any difficulties in allowing two Pc's to see each other ?  or is it purely a Windows / Firewall  / other settings problem ?

i'll try & resolve in next week / few days

It's good that they both say "Private", don't worry about the difference in "Gman1 3" and "Gman1". That network name is unique to each PC.

It's good that both are connected to the same Wi-Fi. Check the isolation mode of the AP, try pinging the IP addresses of each PC. You can also, temporarily, try to disable the firewall.

Who knows, could be either. There should be no reason to buy a new modem just to connect PCs. By default, devices should be able to communicate with each other.

Tried to ping from 1 PC to the other - seems OK / normal - But i couldnt find anything re AP isolation. i did google it, & found its in the settings of the wifi router.

I'll hunt for it tonight. Thanks. (Spark modem HG659b)

Sorry, but I don't understand your post about percentages (I haven't noticed them).

Nevertheless, I use Synergy once a week, but recently set up a new computer. I couldn't get the 2 working / connecting with a master mouse and keyboard until I came across this post:

https://symless.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004888708-Getting-started-with-Synergy

You may see several IP Addresses, usually the current IP address is in bold and the one you need (check with an ipconfig).
