Hi All,

With the move to fibre underway, I have learnt that my trusty Draytek 2820Vn whcih is rack mounted may not allow me to utilise fully the 100Mb download speed of my plan and as such would like some guidance. I have looked at the draytek 2860 and the price point is a bit scary.

I have read and followed discussions on GZ about UBNT (USG/ERLite/etc.) and have a couple of APs that I have been very happy with. I have seen the UBNT "all in one" solution (posted on GZ) starting with USG etc. which is tempting, but not planning to replace netgear switch (FS728TP) just yet.

I use VPN and do have Voip which I plug the Draytek in to the phone network at home via FXS ports.

Trying to replace one rack mounted (1U) device that does VPN,Voip,Fibre appreciate is a challenge - would USG/ERLite cover this?

While the WAN port is only 10/100 it would still give you around 93mbps download speed - if you're maxing out your connection then the extra 7mbps may make a difference .... but I suspect you'd never notice.

If it was me i'd just stick with the current tech

Thanks for that and do agree with your plan. I can always worry about this if it is really an issue once fibre installed (currently in scoping phase). What has put me in to hardware options mode is:http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=33697769 which points to another post (now unavailable) "claims the max WAN-to-LAN speed is only 50Mbps". There is also discussion on the "big brother model" - 2830 http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2085858 stating "Through 2820, i can reach about 70Mbits down".

Will keep investigating the router only series from draytek and look at UBNT kit too.

Wouldn't be limiting yourself to just UBNT gear - definitely some fans on the forums and whilst nothing wrong with it you need to.

Something like this would be great for you - plenty of room to expand to gigabit in the future.

Surely simply replacing the Draytek with the router supplied as part of your upgrade to UFB would do the job?

Thanks for that and yes have been looking at that - currently with spark. Appreciate there is some good feedback on their offering, but have been spoilt with what I have been able to get from the draytek. Certainly a good cost effective option to tie me over if I find the current kit will not cut it.

Ah yes, thanks for the memory jogger. I actually looked at the RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN way back when I got the draytek.

ATA not too big an issue as I can move to viop handsets, but the RB does tick all the other boxes - rack mount, vpn, performance, etc.

I ran the RB2011 for a couple of years and it's fine for up to 100mbps but you wouldn't buy one these days - only a 650mhz processor as opposed to dual core 1.4ghz, 128mb ram vers 1Gb.

Mine is currently sitting in the rack as a spare replaced by a RB1100AHx2 - if you've got the budget that would be a good router or a CCR.

The 3011 is a good router for a good price.

Thanks for all that go info @nitrotech. Currently my fibre scoping seems to be going down the none standard install path whichis perplexing as I have asked they follow my underground copper phone line. Will get back on to routers once this is resolved.
