Hi,

 

 

 

I'm looking for suggestions for a suitable range extender to cover a distance of 500m from one house to another to share an internet connection. I currently have a 2.4ghz setup and am getting 20db signal, although the connection is slow possibly due to interference

 

 

 

Any suggestions would be appreciated

We are using the Nanobeam AC series in two locations for this.  While the units will work over larger distances, ours are bridging a 50m gap and a 450m gap.  I've never speed tested the smaller gap, but over the 450m gap we are getting about 250mbps when testing using speedtest.net, and that is after simply aligning the units using my eyecrometer.

 

Installation was a piece of cake, as was configuration for anyone with reasonable experience installing access points.  I did find the firmware had to be the same at both ends for best performance.

 

IMHO the units are absolutely fantastic for the price.  We used the 5GHz units.

 

What sort of speeds are you getting from the current units?

I had a bridge between buildings here on 2.4GHz and it was trash till I set the AP's to greenfield mode. Seems once on that it ignores all the lowerspeed transmissions which are normally the CTS's and similar on other networks and just transmit. Got close to 100 megabit across it which is amazing IMO.

nanobeam 5 ac would be the best solution i have a set of these setup and they work really well the link is 1.6 km and i can get 150-200meg down on a good day and about the same up never had a problem with them either, i also have a set of power beams running with minimal alignment ad they work a treat to get fiber to a remote location

Awesome, sounds like Nanobeams are the way to go.

 

 

 

All the research I've done so far has pointed in that direction as well. Was considering powerbeam PBE-M5-300, but it sounds as though they would be more than I need

yeah power beams would be over kill for 500m, also on the nano beam link there is a tower of some description and trees in the way but it still manages to get -65 to -68 db which is good at 80mhz channel width, over the 500m you may want to play with the channel width and power output and adjust them accordingly here is another example where the link is just over 100m and the ouput is set to 0db

 

 

 

 

 

Edit: also forgot to mention  get the NBE-5AC model gen one or gen 2, as the 5 gig band isnt as congested as the 2.4 gig

My 400m link with a couple of Litebeam 5ac Gen2's, pretty well maxed out
Litebeams only useful for PtP, but do their job very nicely and were cheapest of the AC radio's
