I found a howto somewhere here explaining how to set this up but it doesn't work.

I get to the point of having "connected" on both PC and iPAQ, but I still can't get anything done with it - no Internet, no ActiveSync.

I have it all working with BT, but want Wi-Fi for the longer range. (in retrospect I should have bought a class 1 BT dongle instead, would probably have been easier than meddling with Wi-Fi)

I found that wi-fi is not always easy, as lots of people believe. In your case, do you have a personal firewall software on your computer? Is it blocking some communication perhaps?

How are you connecting the PocketPC to your wireless network? It sounds like a ad-hoc connection with your PC. Is that correct?

If so, look at these two ad-hoc guides for possible help. Modify as needed for your particular situation...

If your trying to connect to a local wireless access point then look at these links for help...

Wireless troubleshooting guide...

Turn off WEP or WPA to troubleshoot. Make sure the local SSID matches on both the PocketPC and the access point.

Use a hex key on the PocketPC if your using WEP.

Make sure you can get a valid IP (192.168.X.X range) from your local DHCP server, not a 169.X.X.X address.

If you get a valid IP, see if you can ping the access point and desktops by IP.

I already had it setup as far as being able to ping the device from the PC. Following

http://members.cox.net/ajarvi/WM2003/Connection_Manager/ConnectionManager.html

somehow made things work. After that

http://members.cox.net/ajarvi/WM2003/ActiveSync/WM2003ActiveSyncConfiguration.html

was easy to get the ActiveSync to work too.

Thanks!
