Moved into a new place and ordered a fibre connection.  To tide us over until the connection got sorted, I got a Skinny Wireless modem.   Now that we have fibre it is "surplus to requirements"

I am wondering if I can set up the skinny modem/router as a wireless access point to improve the WIFI at the other end of the house.

I have followed the standard steps for connecting two routers (disable DHCP, assign a static IP Address) and I have connected via network cable from the new router to the old one.

I can connect to it's admin console from the computer and configure it.   But if I try connecting via it's WIFI, there is no internet access.

Has anybody else done this?  Is it even possible?  Or is the router going to only try and connect to the internet via the 4g network?

"Main" Router - Huawei HG6569

4G Router - Huawei LTE CPE B315s-607 (Trying to set up as wireless access point)

Yes, you need to configure it to an IP address thats not conflicting with the rest of the network, turn off the DHCP on the LAN settings of skinny router, preferably disable the mobile data side of it, and then just plug an Ethernet cable between each router's LAN port. You could use this to achieve coverage in a different part of the house that doesn't get a good wifi signal.

So for example, if both modems have an IP address of 192.168.1.1 you dont want to break the network, so change the skinny router to something like 192.168.1.253 to avoid IP conflicts. the new router is the "gateway" and best to have that one running the DHCP function, so its important to find that setting to turn off DHCP in the skinny router.

Time to find a new industry!
