I have purchased a new Philips Hue Bridge (https://www.philips.co.nz/c-p/8718696555057/hue-bridge) that has to be connected to a modem via an Ethernet cable. My modem is a Vodafone (Huawei) HG659. The problem is that the modem pretends the plugged in Hue doesn’t exist. I’ve swapped out new cables and reset both devices. Still no joy.

The Vodafone community page has a couple of similar problems with these two products but no answers. I haven’t changed any of the modem settings since Vodafone installed it as part of their fibre installation.

Calls to Vodafone and Philips have drawn a blank. Any suggestions?

Michael

I have the same modem (on bigpipe) and it works correctly with the Hue bridge. I did not need to change any settings etc, it just sees it as a LAN device. have you tried something else on the same RJ45 cable to ensure the cable isnt faulty?

Yes, swapped over cable to test cables. Also swapped over ports. I have a tv running through one of them so I know that particular port and that cable works. Interesting to know yours worked. Do you know if you are on IPv4 or IPV6?

The Hue Bridge just requires DHCP to be enabled and access to the internet. Do you see a DHCP lease? If you navigate to the IP do you see this page?:

Changed over to IPv4 and enabled DCHP. Rebooted all devices. Still no show. This is definitely a challenge.

Here is the HG659 Admin page - any suggestions whether the settings are blocking the Hue Bridge?

No that's just your internet connection. Take a photo of how it's plugged in. it's not in the wan port is it?

Definitely plugged into the right connection. Have tried all four LAN connections.

Can you reset the Hue Bridge?

Sounds like it is not getting an IP address from the DHCP server in your HG659.

You need to browse to the page in the Router's interface showing what DHCP leases it has granted (for example, your TV and computer should be there).

Try taking it around to a friends house and see if it will work there (sound like it probably won't)

If it doesn't work on their network (with a different router) I'd return it for a new one under the CGA. Mine just worked when I connected it.  (on a Fritzbox 7490).
If it does work then you know you are hunting a setting.

Solved. Returned the Bridge for a new one and it worked straight away. So was a problem with the Hue unit itself.
