Hello folks, I am quite new to Bluetooth (or BT as I have it referred to on this Forum) and I need your collective help and assistance in sync'ing my contacts in MS Outlook with my SE T630.

I have followed the steps outlined by NetSoerfer having already installed SP2 for XP. I also read through and followed the steps in the Guides to setting up the WIDCOMM device configuration for sync'ing.

All done, I activated the IrMC Sync and duly got the pop up box showing the process..until nearer the end when I got the error message as below:

"Runtime Error!
Program: C:\PROGRA~1\WIDCOMM\BLUETO~1\BTSTAC~1.EXE.

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I had no other choice but to click on "OK" on the message and then "Cancel" on the pop-up box (as nothing was happening anyway). I then checked the phone and found that I had a list of names but these were not my MS Outlook contacts - they were from my OE address book!

So I checked the config. again and yes I do have "Synchronize Microsoft Outlook" selected in PIM Synch. of both the Client and Local services. I checked my "Programs" tab in IE Internet Options to ensure my default E-Mail program was MS Outlook. Under the same tab in "Contacts" all that was available is "Address book". Don't know if this information is pertinent but better overkill on information than not enough...I guess...

Since that error msg appeared, each time I have tried to sync the devices, the error msg just appears after the pop-up box shows so I can't go any further. It's driving me crazy!!

Can anyone help on this please?

Many thanks.

Golly gosh... Give some time to us to wake up and reply ... Anyway, do you have your Outlook contacts in subfolders? Could this be a problem? Also, do you have the SP2 firewall enabled? Is it allowing the Bluetooth software to communicate? Microsoft Outlook (2000 and newer) should ask you for authorisation for a third party program to access the contacts folder. Is his happening? Perhaps you need to check for updates on the Microsoft Office website?

Hi & apologies!! I didn't take the time to check out the time difference - I should've seen it... .co.NZ. I got carried away in my excitement at having found such an active site that was literally bursting with help and solutions to such problems....

To answer your questions.

"do you have your Outlook contacts in subfolders?" - No.

"Also, do you have the SP2 firewall enabled?" - No. I disabled it in favour of ZoneAlarm which I have been using for a couple of years now.

"Is it allowing the Bluetooth software to communicate?" - Err... I guess the answer to this would be Yes. I can browse the mobile phone contents and see the Themes, Pictures & Sounds.

"Microsoft Outlook (2000 and newer) should ask you for authorisation for a third party program to access the contacts folder. Is his happening?" - I am using Outlook from Office 97. Should the same thing happen? If yes then no I don't get any authorisation request.

"Perhaps you need to check for updates on the Microsoft Office website?" - I tried that yesterday but was informed there were no updates.

I hope the answers have added that little bit more you would need to help pinpoint the problem.

It's strange to me as I mentioned earlier that the error message keeps popping up when I try to sync yet I can browse the phone contents. Do you think an upgrade of Office is called for I shouldn't think so as I don't have the same problems when I sync Outlook with my iPAQ.

Thanks for your assistance.

With regards,

No, I don't think the Office needs an update. But if you're behind a router, on a safe network, try running with ZA off to see if changes the behavior.

Hi freitasm,

Tried your suggestion but still no joy. I noticed that the error seems to occur the moment the connection tact is made with the phone.

Are all BT drivers supplied from the same company and then re-branded? Would it be worth trying to use the TDK driver for example?

My BT USB dongle is branded as from SafeCom. My device is shown here:

Thanks once again for taking the time.

With regards,

OK. This issue is still not dead and laid to rest but at least the BT runtime error no longer occurs.

I took a wander over to Jon’s website and went through his heavily-edited-as-a-result-of-Broadcom set-up guides. I disabled my ADSL LAN, my Antivirus and my Firewall, then uninstalled everything related to Bluetooth (except the built-in SP2 stuff which I couldn't) and all related software. Then I re-installed everything still with the LAN, AV and FW disabled.

I tried the sync.

It seemed to be working then, if fell over with a "bad request from OBEX object" sort of error. Can't recall it exactly and I am not behind my PC at the mo so....

Anyway I checked the phone. It had a list of names but each contact came up with "List empty" so I deleted all the contacts and tried again. Same error. Tried to repeat the same process after deleting the contacts but this time the connection just failed link up.

I haven't given up yet though. I have 2 questions: one, has anyone come across that type of error message and two, when syncing with Outlook, which is used: the Contacts or the Outlook Personal address book? I ask the latter question because the 2 failures seemed to result in duplicates.

Once again thanks to all who post a useful reply.

With regards,

In my experience it syncs with the Outlook Contacts. The Address Book would be the Outlook Express option in the dropdown list in the configuration screen. Are you using both for PIM?

Hi freitasm,

When I look in the Address book in Office Outlook there is the option to choose between showing names from either Outlook Address Book, Contacts or Personal Addres Book. I have Contacts chosen under this option. There is nothing in the Outlook Address Book.

To answer your question though, yes I use both Office Outlook and Outlook Express and therefore the PIM in both. However I mainly use OE not Office Oulook. The latter is where I store/archive my emails from OE and maintain my Contacts (to sync with my PDA). Maybe I should delete the Personal address book entries in Office Outlook as I don't send or receive emails with it.

So any ideas on the OBEX error? I#m gonna give it a try again today - I appreciate it's 2am your time so I'll be patient.. :-)

Many thanks.
