My olds have purchased a place approximately 650m up the road from where I live. Initially I wondered if this was a good thing, however I have since come to realise that it will definitely work in my favor as they are 250m inside the eventual fibre boundary, and I'm 450m outside it! I have an idea to create a Point to Point link between our properties so that we can eventually look at sharing that fibre connection when it is finally made.
There is a cemetery between us, as well as some farmland. There are a few trees, but the ones that I can see growing to be an issue are actually on either my property, or the olds - win again.
I'm a bit of a self-confessed Ubiquiti fan-boi and have been using their 'Link' website to assess the connection between the two properties. The suggestion that it makes is the LiteBeam 5AC Gen2 My only concern with this unit is that we live in the Wairarapa, and we get a bit of gentle breeze every now and then.
I was looking at the AirGrid M5 and wondering if it would work as well in the same situation? It has a mesh reflector as opposed to a solid one so the wind loading should be significantly less.
I'd welcome any input from anyone who has attempted/completed such an activity using the above mentioned equipment, or if there were any suggestions as to other gear I may not have though of. I have read the posts from another member who lives just over the hill from me and what he has done, as well as the member who has done very similar to remote his modem to the roadside and PtP to his house - both of which have great ideas but I am not 100% sure that they are quite the same scenarios.
I'm happy to provide a link to the 'Link" website via PM if someone wanted to have a look and provide better advice - but posting it here seems a little silly :)
Thanks in advance,
