have been trying to solve this problem for several month.

I have two computers at home running winXp. Both are connected with cross cable network. I ran the Xp wizard to create the network.
I added the MSI bluetooth USB key to the computer that act as the server.
I am using Bluetoth software ver is 1.3.1 by widcomm.
I am try to establish BT connection between dektop and the IPAQ.

The problem is as follows:
1. When running the winXp home netwrok wizard to create a netwrok with bluetooth network ,it works fine.
2. When doing the same for the home network (between the two desktop computers) agine I can establish a network connection between both desktops.
3. When running the wizard and trying to bridge both, I get a bridge but the bluetooth does not work (I can establish connection but can not share files or browse).
4. When checking with the ceipconfig utility the connection, in scenarion 1 I see that an IP was assigned to the bluetooth. in scenarion 3 no IP is assigned (it says no adapter is assigned).
5. I tried to give the BT network an IP manualy. I gave it 192.168.0.1. still the IPAQ didn't recognize it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rami,

Rami, have you checked the second PC's IP address? Perhaps when you link them 192.168.0.1 is used, and that conflicts with the address used on the Bluetooth adapter.

I did and I changed it to 192.168.0.2. It didn't help.
Is there a way to configure the IP address manualy (doing what the ICS does but manualy).

You'll have to change the other addresses, ICS requires the receiving side to be 192.168.0.1.

Mauricio ,

I am not sure that I know what to do.
If I'll use the ICS for the BT I'll not be able to share internet connection between my home computers network.
Can you help with more detailed instructions?

The problem is that ICS only allows one connection sharing at a time. You might want to install another software to do this. Winroute should do the trick. With that you'll be able to define more than one connection sharing in a single computer.

Thanks. I was thinking about it and I am Ok with having the Internet sharing only between my home desktop computers ("Home network") but I would like to be able to share folders on my BT network. Can that be achieved.

I try something which gave me strage results.

I ran the IPCONFIG from command prompt. It was able to recognize the home network adapter and the BT adapter and list there IP addresses. However when running the Winipconfig ver for XP it recognize only the Home network.

It looks like that when runing the ICS it assign an IP that can be recognized by Winipconfig.

Does that make sence.

Rami, it doesn't make sense... The IPCONFIG should show the same as WINIPCFG... Strange.

Anyway, I hope you're ok with one network at a time. Otherwise give a try to Winroute. They have a demo version, I think.

Mauricio .

Thanks again. I'll try this software and let you know.
some addition to my previous post. The Winipconfig didn't recognized the BT network in all cases.
I have this feeling that the problem had to do with the BT software (MSI key with WIDCOMM software). It should support network Bridge (according to the manufacturer) but it doesn't work.
I asked for help from MSI they didn't replay to any of my support request (all this way prior to the SARS ). Widcomm said that since this is an OEM product they can not provide support (which I can understand).
This is the story of this BT key. If it will not work then I am giving up and for the future will check carefully what to purchase.

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience... Perhaps you could return the item and use another one, from TDK or other well known brand?

Mauricio ,

It tried the Winrouter. It didn't help. Something is wrong with this BT driver ver.
Do you know how can obtain Widcomm Ver 1.3.7 or higher?

New versions should be available from MSI. There are ways to use drivers from other makers, but you have to fiddle with some configuration bits...

Regarding your network, instead of using the Wizard, have you tried manually setting all NICs?

Mauricio ,

I tried to set it up manualy . I don't have a lot of knowledg with do it but I tried.

This is what I did.
1. Right click on the BT connection.
2. Chose Properties then the general tab then the TCP/IP prperties
3. At the TCP/IP I chose the IP address . I entered IP 192.168.0.1 and sunbet 255.255.255.0

With that I was able to connect to the Ipaq but the Ipaq ceipconfig utility didn't recognized the network (message said "no adapter was recognized.)

Then I Right cliked on my ISP connection chose the Advance tab and then checked the ICS and chose the BT network from the network list .

Only by doing this the BT network get recognized by the Ipaq (the ceipconfig recognize the BT network and list down all the connection info.

So by toggling back and forth the network associated with the ICS the BT network get recognized or not by the Ipaq.

Do I have to do something else?

Yes, you're in the right path.

ICS will only work with one adapter at a time, and you'll have to live with it... Or perhaps invest in a small router (around $ 80) from Belkin or DLINK and plug your computers into it, leaving ICS free for your Bluetooth connection.
