Dear all

I got a big problem regarding the internet sharing issue using levelone bluetooth adapter, please if anyone can help!

Basically I got 2 device: laptop and desktop, both are running under WindowsXp platform and plugged with a levelone bluetooth adapter at each end. Currently, the desktop is connected to the internet and i have already configured the internet sharing connection according to the guideance in this website. However, my laptop still not able to access the internet through my desktop and I'm not able to ping each others.

Desktop ip configuration

LAN interface 2 (bluetooth interface)
ip address: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.0.1

Laptop ip configuration

ip address: 192.168.0.5
subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.0.1

With reference to the guideance from this website, I found that under bluetooth configuration -> setup -> configuration -> local service tab -> network access, it should be able to choose "Allow other device to access the internet/LAN via this computer". However, from my bluetooth software, i didn't find this option, my bluetooth place software is version 1.3.5

Is that because my bluetooth adapter doesn't support internet sharing or I have some mistakes on the configurations? Please Help!!!

If you're using Widcom stack (let's assume you are), previous versions will not have the "Allow other devices to access..." option. This will be the default, so don't worry.

Regarding you LAN configuration, I'll assume your desktop is connected to the internet via DSL or cable modem. Therefore you'll have a NIC in it.

First, make sure the NIC is configured with an address that is not 192.168.0.1. This address is to be only used by your LAN interface 2 as you posted.

Next, the default gateway should in the LAN interface 1 should be your DSL or cable modem, or a router, if you have one.

The BT interface doesn't need a default gateway, this will be supplied by ICS automatically. You might need a DNS address there.

In the laptop configuration remove the default gateway as well, and the IP address. Let ICS assign an address, gateway and DNS.

Give it a try!

Thanks for your advise Mauricio !

I think I have solved the internet sharing problem in the case that the network interface on the desktop is directly connected to the internet. However I found a problem on sharing the internet access if that interface required an authenitication procedure before connecting to the internet.

What I mean is that for my LAN interface 1, the ip address is something like 178.18.36.5 where the gateway ip is 178.18.36.1, If i want to access internet by using the desktop, I will have to do the authenication first with a login name and password. In this case, even I turn on the "internet sharing" on Lan interface 1, I still not able to let my laptop access the internet via the desktop, is there any suggestion to solve the problem? Do I need any further routing between LAN 1 and LAN 2 on the desktop?
