Hi all

I’ve just recently acquired a new HG659b that’s not being used at work so I plan on ditching the NF15ACV currently in use at home and setting up the Huawei in its place, easy enough to do.

I use a UniFi ac lite ap for wifi and have disabled wlan on the Netcomm router. Only devices connected to the ap are 3 phones an iPad and a laptop, everything else is cabled like TVs, ATV, PS4 etc.

Will hooking up the HG659B be any benefit to me in terms performance. I know the HG659B has a few features that the Netcomm doesn’t have but I’m more interested in getting a stable connection as the garbage that is the Netcomm can be unreliable and often requires a restart to bring it back in line.

I am a total noob at this and I’m learning to configure on the fly, but it’s quite satisfying when it all comes together.

Thanks

you haven't said what kind of connection you have?

I run a NF15AC for my VDSL and its been up for over a year (I have an UPS so it doesn't die in a power outage)

they are solid for just one purpose, in my case just delivering the VDSL as like you I use a couple of AP's

Sorry on gigabit fibre, the problem I’m having is it works as intended for a week or two then all of a sudden my connection feels like it’s being throttled, devices will not load webpages and timeout or come to a crawl trying to load, streaming services like Netflix will buffer or spit out “no connection error” ATV doesn’t load static thumbnails within apps.

So troubleshooting I’d perform a wired Speedtest via the W10 app and I’d average 40mbps down and up during these “issues” and only after resetting the router everything works fine again and I’d hit around 700-900mbps easily for another week, sometimes two.

Without any real experience or knowledge I’m assuming if I replace the router then that may fix my problems, if it doesn’t then somewhere else along the chain is the issue. I suppose the primary question in my OP is actually a secondary question where I’m asking will the HG659B be a better router then my current one even if it’s not the issue, if the Netcomm is the issue then I guess it answers my question anyway.

I guess only one way to find out.

Yes firmware is current.

I spoke to my isp about this and nothing on their end was causing the issues, at first I thought that I may have been provisioned incorrectly as I speed tested (via Ethernet) once I came across these issues and averaging only 4% of a gigabit plan made me think something is horribly wrong. As mentioned restarting the router brought everything back in line again.

I’m stumped and can only think starting from the router and working my way down the chain to see if maybe my gear is the issue.

I suspect the router is just getting its memory full and slowing down, hence the restart works.

the HG659 has a 32 device limit so that may hinder you

makes sense now that you mention it.

I actually came to report that I’ve switched to the HG659 and besides a technical issue with my UniFi AP not playing well initially, I managed to sort that and so far so good, wifi signal was stronger but I’ve disabled wlan.

Will test for a few weeks to see if it makes any difference.
