My sister recently swapped to Trustpower for internet and they installed the router in the garage at the opposite end of the house where the living areas are. Consequently, they have very poor wifi reception in the living end of the house.

They are wondering whether installing a wifi booster will assist? I have attached a copy of the Trustpower router if this assists. Thanks in advance.

Yes Wi-Fi booster will help but I would be calling the ISP and ask them to move the AP to where the customers actually use it

Maybe they have just switched from XDSL to UFB. And the installers put the ONT in the garage.

If so, easiest solution might be a longer Ethernet cable so the router can be moved back into the lounge.

Thanks, they would need to run the ethernet through the ceiling the length of the house. They have minimal tech skills so I'm not sure they are up to that.

If they are unsuccessful with ISP moving AP, what brand/model wi-fi booster is recommended?

Why not call someone, e.g., a data cabler, who is up to it. One run should only be $150 or so.

In all seriousness there is no such thing as a "WiFi booster" that works. They are the worlds worst solutoon and should be banned from sale.

Yes they have some very small specific use cases where they can work - but unless people know why they're bad all they'd end up likely doing is making the WiFi even worse, not better.

You would probably have just as much of an experience improvement just switching that router out...

I'm not sure what trustpower does to them but omg, so unreliable. They just pause randomly with data transfer.

pls fix them @taneb1

@hio77  - This issue was fixed with the NF15ACV_Trustpower_v1.2.42NET737 firmware and upwards (So this unit should not experience any problems).

Any NF15ACV units running firmware lower than this should have been updated remotely, or can be updated via our Customer Support Team over the phone.

In saying that, we have not been sending the NF15ACV since June this year and this has been replaced with the NF18ACV.

Hi @dafman,

As other have mentioned there is a few options.

  • Moving the ONT within the property to a more central location.
  • Using a WiFI Booster - Currently we only offer the AmpliFi HD Mesh Point, but there are many other options available from PB Tech, Noel Leeming, etc.
  • Installing an Ethernet Over Power device to relocate the router to somewhere more central (This would be recommended as a last resort).

Information on the devices that we currently supply are here - https://ask.trustpower.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/89/~/devices-to-improve-wireless-coverage

Personally, I would recommend to get the ONT moved as will deliver a permanent reliable solution.

If you would like to send me through your contact details and the account number, I can organise for someone to get in touch with you and discuss the situation further so we can help resolve this for you.

Thanks, Tane

Quick update: Tane from Trustpower has been in touch and they have agreed to move the ONT into a more practical location at Trustpower cost.

We get a lot of negative ISP posts on GZ, so happy to post a good news one to add some balance. Thanks Trustpower
