Hi All

Does anyone know if there is a minimum enclosure dimensions for a fibre ONT?

I have power in an adjacent enclosure but want to put the ONT (in a new build) in a small enclosure (eg: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/ENCDNX1011/Dynamix-HWS-1404V2-14-Network-Enclosure-Recessed-W)

If this big enough, is there minimum clearances or heat issues?

Cheers

Chorus have size recommendations under their wiring guide at the link below

  • The home distributor box:
    • A dual power outlet is recommended to power any equipment
    • Ideally the home distributor box will be installed in a recess on the inside wall near the ETP position, about eye level is best
    • We recommend minimum dimensions of 350mm wide x 700mm high x 80mm deep

@openmedia the reason they recommend that large is to fit everything into one unit, ie the ONT, router, patch panel ups etc

in my build the only think going in the enclosure with the ONT is an UPS. so it can be a bit smaller than the one you linked but wont be as small as the one the OP has proposed.

Thanks OpenMedia

I understand that is "recommended" size, but wanting the smallest they will actually accept?

The sizing they suggest assumes it is the only enclosure and wireless/router, switch and power is needed within box, hence larger size. But in my case I have a large network cabinet next door with all of the above. Given its a hinged cabinet I don't think they will allow the ONT in there (from risk of damaging fibre), soI have to have a special enclosure just for ONT. Space limitations mean I don't have room for one that big.

Cheers

FYI we've used 14" enclosures as well as 20", 28" and 42".

Chorus installers don't care what size to be honest (just like they don't really care about the install process as agreed or not), despite whatever their site says.
