I have bought a Huawei B315s router from a lady that used it with her Spark plan.

I live in a rural area and need the 3G network to work.
For some reason though, the modem is stuck on 4G only and I don’t know how to change that. The other options that usually appear with this modem (2G, 3G ecc) aren’t there.

How do I fix this? I am assuming Spark has done something to the modem to lock it on 4G only?
Can I remove that woth an update or something?

Thanks a lot!!

The devices are locked to 4G as Spark only provide fixed wireless services over 4G.

Avoid the Spark/Skinny ones.

Look for Vodafone/Wireless Nation/Netspeed/Full Flavour/other RBI provider.

Feel free to PM me, we've got a 3G-compatible B315 we can sell you.

to be fair, almost all rural areas are overlayed with 4G now anyway...

Are you intending to use this on a Mobile plan or a Fixed wireless plan? if the later you are better off getting a modem from the provider you purchase from.

If your intending to use the sim 'the lady' had with her modem, it will not drop down to 4g and will be canceled soon as her plan is, which i assume she's switched services...

I also suspect these have never been U850 capable, so you won't find any B315 that will work on Spark 3G. Only Vodafone & 2degrees.

So, the modem isn’t locked to Spark , it is just locked on 4G only.
Where I live there is no 4G with DiscoverNET which is the provider I chose for the broadband.

What I am wondering is how do I unlock the “4G only”?
The device isnt going to be cancelled by Soark, it was purchase and paid through spark.

There is certain versions of firmware for them that have 3g enabled. So if you can track that down then you will be sorted

to be clear, you will have to source this outside of spark.

Support teams will not have this firmware version.

I'd still recommend simply getting the modem from your provider...

I'm fairly sure the Stock Huawei B315 firmware doesn't have any restrictions.

I remember Googling around for it ages ago and found it on a Huawei site. Haven't looked for it recently so YMMV, but if you search you may find.

Also be aware that from Spark there was a B315-607 and B315-608 revision that use different versions of firmware. So make sure if you track down firmware and plan to load it make sure you have the right version.
