Hi all,

Happy New Year first of all..

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to router set-up, so please be gentle..

I have just connected and set up this router (Asus-RT68U) but I cannot connect to the router itself via wifi, only via ethernet.

Once connected via ethernet, there is no internet access available on the connected laptop.

I can still connect to the Spark Hauwei modem (HG659B) via wifi.

Any help would be appreciated!

how do you have things connected? sounds like you have both the asus and the hg659 connected.

what are you trying to achieve?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I followed the manual and have the Huawei connected to the ONT and the Asus connected to the Huawei..

Do I need the Huawei at all?

I just want an connection with better wifi that is better and more stable than what I have with the Huawei, plus I want to use OpenVPN.

I want to remove it... I just read that I don't even need it and can connect my Asus straight into the ONT (Facepalm moment!)

*click*

you need to setup the internet connection the the asus and remove the hg659 from the system

also helps if you include all the information in the first post as it was rather cryptic :)

Yes I can see how vague it was now 🙂

Thank you for your advice!

I shall post back later with hopefully a successful comment.

All is working as it should. Had a few days of hassles, but managed to get it working as I had set out to do.
