Hi,

I have deployed this HG659B as our wireless access point off a Cisco layer 3 switch (the aironet device we used died last week).

Our main firewall is a cisco security appliance to sparks fibre connection. (vlan 10).

The gimped HTTP setup up of the HG659B is bad, it disables a lan netmask of anything other than a class c (255.255.255.0).

What is the admins password for a telnet connection to the HG659b so I can change the lan netmask ?

Many thanks

(yes we will replace the HG659b wireless in time to something more suitable)

The HG659 is a consumer device. What you're asking for is not consumer grade. You need to dial back your expectations.

If you're just using the HG659 as an access point then disable the DHCP server on it and change the IP to something on your range (forget about the subnet) and be done with it.

Remember as well that this (along with many other routers out there) has a 16 client limitation on the wireless.

Yes, yes yes.. It is a gimped device with the http interface, I do believe I stated that.

When I telnet to it, I have the login prompt. What is the admin's password ? This is my device, I own it.

Cheers

Hi I think you will find to locked by the supplying ISP for there TR069 management, doubt you will have much luck.

Even though you may own it, it is only a device provided by ISPs, so not all is transparent.

I recommend you get a more suitable device.

Amazon link with your post.. Why did you post something that is a complete waste of time ?, it adds no value to this thread, maybe it just adds to the noise of distraction I see so much in this Spark section.

Question still stands .. What is the telnet credentials to the HG659b Wireless AP

Just because you own it doesn't specifically mean somebody is going to hand you a root password on a silver platter. By your logic, I should be able to get the root password of my PS4's FreeBSD OS just by asking Sony because I own it.

There is an older thread here: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=158&topicid=201985 however again, it isn't "gimped", it is suited for the consumer level market. There is also the possibility you're able to download the configuration, modify it, and restore the configuration hoping it sticks.

Do however bare in mind the WiFi chipset of this router does come with a low client limitation. You're better off perhaps investing in a proper access point.

Sounds like this is an interim thing for @op, maybe just to test or get something working until the long term solution is in place. I can understand the logic, but in this case it's not the right device to use.

Recommendations aside, the answer is you won't get an answer.

Thanks Cyril.

Where can I send this door stopper, or anchor to get destroyed as it seems to have no other purpose. If it costs me to dispose of it, I will return to spark in one of their high street stores.

Can you recommend an ISP that provides equipment that is not gimped ?

It's not gimped, it's a residential consumer device that's fit for purpose.

Depends if you're on a business account or residential account....Highly unlikely any residential routers will do what you seem to need.  There's many business/enterprise devices that will, but usually not supplied by the ISP.

I purchase an ASA 5510 last week, yes it is end of life.. but guess what, it works, it has support, and no it is not a PS4.. And it blow this crap gear out of the water.

Your logic makes me despair in the future. If I own a device, like a Tesla car, I get to play with it. Do I want a root kit for my tesla, heck no, but would I want a gimped telsa ?

We as consumers need to expect better equipment and service. and YES this device is gimped !!!

I own the HG659b, I can telnet to the device, it requires credentials to login, what are those credentials.

It's not gimped, it's residential consumer grade.  Buy business/enterprise grade, job done, as you've learned by getting the ASA which is an enterprise device.  You're not going to get much support for your opinion here.

None.. If you've got your ISP connection/modem/ont/whatever, buy a decent router/AP yourself.

No ISP will provide one.

Plenty of thousands to choose from, basic to enterprise.

Thank you, I understand no answer for the question will come from here, nor spark.

The noise created in the thread, is however very interesting.

Thank you for the response
