Probably looking at @Hio77, but keen to hear others thoughts.

Chucked a new VDSL connection for a custom, on a POTS line, filter installed.

Stats (from Chorus side) look like this:

DIAGNOSIS PARAMETERS
ACTUAL BITRATE
DOWNSTREAM 113.279 Mb/s
UPSTREAM 29.999 Mb/s

ACTUAL PSD
DOWNSTREAM -56.2 dBm/Hz
UPSTREAM -65.0 dBm/Hz

So it's rocking it hard on a 17a profile at 110Mbps down, but is "unstable" in Chorus' words and also from our own monitoring via SNMP.   I've requested we pull it back to a 9b profile, but wondering if there is a better option. Obviously could just simply be a bad line, so no amount of profile changing will help. But from experience, what do people reckon?

Edit: dam, tables didn't come out properly lol

ok, so lets break this down..

Firstly, dropping to 8b is not possible, that's a vectored line.

Secondly, "unstable" - to this date nobody has been able to clarify exactly what that means.

often it's easily trigged by a single reconnection.

The fact that your getting in via your monitoring, i'd suspect you mean radius session is dropping?

What modem is on this? is it vectoring capable? Have you ran an LQD to get an idea of the underlying line?

hows the POT's line sounding?

Short of an obvious fault somewhere, have seen plenty of cases like this that seemed to occur on vectoring.

All the ones I've had @BMaquris look at have ended up being line related issues. Unfortunately it seems @ChorusNZ field techs can sometimes struggle to locate the cause of these issues and opt to instead just do dumb things like remove vectoring...

@hio77

When you say this, are you referring to someone like me in 2014 with a dodgey VDSL line who'd make the entire neighborhood lose sync on resync?

Nope, purely referring to the "Service Stability" field.

I'm not kidding when i say it's an ambiguous field.

You know exactly why your line caused issues...

14-15 volts instead of 8 or what ever it was.
I see what you mean by "Service Stability" in the modem extract.

oops, 8b, that's what I meant.

Unstable - interesting, probably why my wholesaler couldn't answer that question either haha.

Yea should have clarified, from our own monitoring I just see the radius session drop, and some of those drops have been long enough to trigger an alert on the SNMP system.

Draytek DV130 is the modem (Mikrotik is the router, and terminates PPPoE), and that's a point, I must check the firmware version.

And no, I don't think they have done an LQD yet because I just asked if we could change profiles.

Yea line is good, no noise etc.

i'd double check the firmware on the DV130.. it's typically these i've seen issues relating to vectoring with.

Alrighty, so the router was on "3.8.4_m4" and the draytek sites recommends "3.8.4_m8" for AU & NZ customers so have upgraded to that.

Let's see if that makes a difference today. Must chase wholesale too on that LQD.

They only give you api access responses?

that would make technical support difficult.

Na, just reinforces the sales pitch that we need to get fibre or fixed wireless connected!

With a profile like that, it's hard to argue to switch to wireless or Fibre though!

Well since 08:06 there have been no radius resets!!

So, knocking on some big chunky wood, reckon that firmware upgrade has done the job.
