hi everyone,

I made a dumb move AGAIN, i decided to try turned a pc to a router as my ERL usb dead again.

i managed to config the pppoe and vlan tagging to get internet access, but it was having hard time getting full speed.

ERL has 800/400, pfsense only has 300/400, i did try switching them and do the speed test, so dont think it is driver related.

anyone could help me on where i should start looking to change config to get full speed?

beside pfsense, is there any os I should try? im wanting something reliable and can do full speed. mostly download and steaming online.

Not a dumb move at all. I'm using the ERL at the moment though.

Intel NICs and a fast CPU (i3 or better) should get you close.

You need a CPU with good single core performance as FreeBSDs PPPoE implementation is single threaded. Intel NICs are probably the best supported of all, and allow for hardware offloading. There are some hardware offloading settings in the system configuration which you may also be able to enable to see if they help.

it is a N3160 cpu only, and both Ethernet ports are on board ones.

i have my ERL still going just cant turn it off, otherwise it wont boot unless replace the USB stick.

will try the hardware offloading tonight, thanks for the tip :)
