I bought a ASUS RT-AC86U last year and was getting random Internet drops every few days or so. I tried upgrading firmware from ASUS and Merlin to no avail. I took the router back and they replaced it. I configured it, upgraded to the latest ASUS firmware and was happy for a few days and bang same thing. Random Internet drop.

Since then I've used the standard Spark router and it's never dropped at all.

I like the ASUS router and it has great wireless coverage. But the drop outs are annoying

Any ideas would be great. I've seen articles referring to DNS, DHCP etc but nothing concrete

Normally these under preform rather than drop sessions...

As your spark modem is working fine, i'd say the network isn't to blame.

possibly look at if you are filling up the NAT table? i recall that being another downside of the AC86U..

I have Asus dsl-ac68u and it dit the same. I had bought a rt-ac88u and same thing. every 3 to 4 days have to restart to get internet back. expensive door stops. Had hoped they would have been okay by now. I liked the ac88u for the 8 ports. So back to internet provider modem plus network switch. Really wanted to only have router was reason so 1 device. Now have to have 2 router and switch so extra power points. Wont ever buy another Asus router.
