Belkin F8T001uk v2 (Widcomm) Bluetooth USB Adapter Dongle Not Recognised by the Computer as a New USB Device

I have a Sony Desktop Computer PCV-RX1 with Win XP and SP2 from Microsoft Windows installed (but the dongle was not recognised before or after I installed it). I have no license problem.

I can install the drivers (Widcomm) and the ones from the CD (Belkin) without any problem. But my computer just won't recognised the USB Bluetooth Dongle. Whatever I do, when I plug it in after installing the drivers, it does not recognise a new USB Device.

I tried to Add a new Hardware, using the Widcomm drivers. I also tried with “I Have the Disk” and then point to the BIN folder of the Widcomm or Belkin Drivers on my hard drive (depending on which one I tried). Nothing makes the computer recognise the Bluetooth Device. Any idea?

Note: it works perfectly well with my portable computer which recognised it instantly.

Do you have any other USB devices connected and working? Perhaps the USB root hub driver is missing?

There appear to be two USB root hub installed, and I have two other USB devices connected: my printer/fax/photocopier and my ADSL modem.

I can't even find the Belkin device when I try to intall the driver. I have been installing the only thing I could find: Philips Bluetooth USB Dongle. I have the CD and the most updated driver from the Belkin website (which now is switched to a Widcomm driver, from Belkin themselves).

How old is this computer? Is this based on a VIA motherboard?

It is pretty recent, less than 2 years old (pentium 4). I have never heard the word VIA motherboard, so I must assumed it is not.

Thank you, I have now solved my problem. The plastic around my USB port prevented the device from being completely inserted. I have plugged the device on the USB port at the back of my computer and it was recognised instantly.

Sorry for not being geek enough!

Genuine mistake, it penetrates almost all the way in, but not completely! (I'm talking about a dongle here, don't get any idea!)

I bet it will happen to others, and they might figure it out by reading this... and not waste 4 days like I did...
