Hi All,

Having some issues with a new-ish USG Pro 4. Changes made in the controller for DHCP and Default gateway is not being saved to router. I've contacted Unifi and they've simply told me they cannot reproduce the issue and closed my case, even though people are experiencing the same issue on their forums.

I did a quick check through ssh:

admin@ubnt:~$ show configuration commands | grep dhcp-server
set service dhcp-server disabled false
set service dhcp-server hostfile-update disable
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 authoritative disable
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 subnet 192.168.1.0/24 lease 86400
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 subnet 192.168.1.0/24 start 192.168.1.100 stop 192.168.1.253
set service dhcp-server static-arp disable
set service dhcp-server use-dnsmasq disable

So gateway and DNS server are not being advertised even though the details are in the controller under networks-> Lan-> Edit. I tried both manual and automatic configuration of dns and gateway, both will not update the USG settings. Also tried to re-adopt and nothing.

Using the following:

configure
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 authoritative enable
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 subnet 192.168.1.0/24 default-router 192.168.1.1
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 subnet 192.168.1.0/24 dns-server 192.168.1.1
commit
save
exit

Now the USG works as intended and shows the following:

admin@ubnt:~$ show configuration commands | grep dhcp-server
set service dhcp-server disabled false
set service dhcp-server hostfile-update disable
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 authoritative enable
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 subnet 192.168.1.0/24 default-router 192.168.1.1
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 subnet 192.168.1.0/24 dns-server 192.168.1.1
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 subnet 192.168.1.0/24 lease 86400
set service dhcp-server shared-network-name LAN_192.168.1.0-24 subnet 192.168.1.0/24 start 192.168.1.100 stop 192.168.1.253
set service dhcp-server static-arp disable
set service dhcp-server use-dnsmasq disable

So issue with this is that every time I make an update to something in the controller, the USG loses its settings and have to re-ssh and configure again. As Ubiquiti is being extremely unhelpful in the matter, is there anyway to make the changes persistent, without the possibility of having any issues later on when upgrading firmware and software?

lookup the config.gateway.json file, its where you put extra stuff to get provisioend to the USG ontop of the settings the controller lets you choose.

Its in the sites/Default folder (or sites/some random string on my other install)

I have many static DNS overrides in mine for internal servers, but you can basically do any of the config from there.

Im not sure of the exact syntax but I have copied variuos parts from forum posts etc into it, and it seems that you can do a

configure

and then

show

to see if it took them or not. When it hasn't I have messed up the { and } - some posts said about a json validator but I have so little in there that counting them was good enough.

edit:

Just checked mine and

leads to

so the google dnss are working for me to go in there from the controller, but its the current or before current beta versions.

I can't replicate this either.

What is your controller version?

Yeah, manually imputed data saves, but is overwritten when a change is made in the controller..

Current version is 5.10.23 (Build: atag_5.10.23_11668)

Have had this problem with the previous version I was on, hoping it would fix the issue. Unfortunately not.

You may be best to create a new site with the settings you want in the controller and migrate your UniFi gear over to it.

Thanks Michael, switching sites seems to have fixed my issues! Crazy that a factory reset couldn't fix it but switching sites could. Either way, happy to have a stable environment now. Appreciate the help.
